Toro Lite 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Team All-Stars

By STEVE W (New York Islanders) (New York Islanders) On Tuesday 23rd April 2024 / 2:17pm

Well folks, the season is coming to a close but there has been some amazing performances in the minor leagues this year. Here's a look at who the top players were across the league and who's deserving of some extra recognition and maybe even a few Toro $$$s.

The First Team All-Stars are the creme-de-la-creme of the minor league system. The players in this group are statistical beasts and likely deserve full-time PRO deals and opportunities as soon as next season. The forwards are Cody Glass (Bridgeport), Owen Tippett (Bridgeport), and Tyler Johnson (Syracuse). Glass and Tippett have torn up the AHL from the beginning of the season and only had a minor break when Tippett was called up for a few games to the BFHA Islanders. Glass leads the minors in assists, while Tippett sits first in points (second in both goals and assists). Tippet finds himself behind Toro Lite league leader in goals and first team all-star linemate, Tyler Johnson. Johnson will eclipse 50 goals this year for the Crunch. Although Tyler may not be an everyday NHL pro anymore, he can wreak havoc in the BFHA minor league system. On defence Johnson's Crunch Teammate Bowen Byram (Syracuse) and Providence Bruin Connor Mackey serve as first team all stars. Byram is second among Toro Lite defencemen in points with 52 in 58 games (0.9ppg) while Mackey is the defensive league leader in points, assists, and penalty minutes! In net, the top goaltender this season has been Ukka-Pekka Luukkonen (Leigh Valley). UPL has won 42 of 57 games played, he holds the top save percentage in the Toro Lite (0.891%), and has allowed his team the opportunity to contend with the best in the minors.

The Second Team All-Stars have fewer statistical league-leaders in categories, however, these players have been maximizing their production given thee amount of games they have played. Up front is Jacob Studnicka (Leigh Valley), Brett Seney (Colorado), and Jansen Harkins (Leigh Valley). All three forwards have missed ten or more games this season with injuries. Similarly, they are all producing at close to 1.5points-per-game. Studnicka (53gp 31g 82p) and Harkins (53gp 29g 75p) have enjoyed playing with each other throughout the year when healthy. They have proven to be a deadly duo, much like the league leaders in Bridgeport. Seney, a sneaky and whilly veteran in the Avalanche system has put together a great season scoring 30 goals and 75 points in 52 games. As you can see, all three second team all-star forwards have nearly identical sesons that are truly worthy of recognition. On defence, Calle Rosen (Utica) and Cam York (Bridgeport) earn honours. Rosen is the closest defenceman with significant games played to being a point-per-game defender (49 points in 52 games played). What is most impressive about Rosen are his 27 goals! York on the other hand has been one of the best, if not the best all-round defender in the minors this year. He has 44 points in 60 games played, a +53 rating, and has played the 14th most minutes per game. Between the pipes for the 2nd team is Connor Ingram (Calgary). Ingram leads the minors in wins (46) after maxing out his total games played. He also sits 4th in save percentage (0.880)

Finally, the Third Team All-Stars are a group of players that are close to the top statistically in a variety of areas, but also bring something else to their teams or the minor league system. Let's start in net. Eric Comrie (Belleville). Comrie probably should have started more games for Belleville because when he was between the pipes, the team played well. Comrie had teh 2nd best save percentage (0.888) in the minors and won the vast majority of his starts (28 of 46 or 61%). He carried the baby Senators and will clearly be their MVP this season. On defence are two bruisers that also produced points. Simon Benoit (Syracuse) and Arber Xhekaj (Milwaukee) are the final defensive selections. Benoit accumulated 44 points in 61 games plus he had 92 shot blocks, 129 hits, and 34 tough penalty minutes. Benoit was a tough defender to play against but not as hard as Xhekaj! Arber smashed people all season long (220 hits) and wasn't afraid to block shots either (52) while still putting in 20 gaols and 40 points. What more could you ask for? Capping off the all-star selections are forwards Mike Amadio (Iowa), Martin Frk (Providence), Jalen Anderson-Dolan (Providence). Anyone noticing a theme amongst the forwards? It seems like you really need 2 great players clicking together to pull your team! And that is excactly what Frk and Anderson-Dolan have done, collecting 79 and 77 points respectively. As a result, Providence finds themselves in the battle for the Toro Lite President's trophy. Last, but certainy not least, Amadio has had a great year leading the charge in Iowa. His 35 goals are 5th in the league and his 85 points are 4th. Amadio definitely has support as several Bruins are having nice seasons as well, but there is no clear #2 like the other forwards have and are enjoying!

Congratulations to all the players, GMs, and organizations that are producing such an exciting/interesting minor league season.

ALL-STAR VOTING

By STEVE W (New York Islanders) (New York Islanders) On Saturday 24th February 2024 / 1:24pm

It's an ALL-STAR time of year. This year we have adopted an old school Eastern Conference vs Western Conference approach to the ALL-STAR game. Each team will consist of 12 forwards, 6 defnecemen, and 3 goaltenders.

The league has asked fans and they have selected the top 5 forwards, 3 defencemen and starting goalies for each team (announced below).

Now the league needs your help to vote for the remaining All-Stars. Go to the hyperlink below or use the same link that's posted in Discord and make your selections. We kindly ask that you make only one set of selections to represent your votes. Votes will be tabulated next weekend (March 2nd) and a fulll announcement of All-Stars will be made.

Teams will earn $$$ for the number of all-stars that are chosen to represent them at the game. GMs are encouraged to select the players they feel are most deserving based on the performances this year (consider production, team standings, solo efforts!). Every team does NOT need to be represented although, there is at least one player previously selected or serving as an option for every team.

Happy Voting

JAN, 2024: Annual Re-Signing Period for Yr29 Begins!

By Commissioner On Wednesday 31st January 2024 / 11:51pm

Greetings, fellow BFHA GMS!

The time has come for us to open the annual Re-signing Period, effective immediately!  This is an annual event in the BFHA whereby GMs have the opportunity to re-sign many of their players to extensions / new contracts.  To see who is coming due for a new deal on your teams (Pro and Farm) simply go to our new website under League -> Free Agents -> Players AND Goalies and then search and filter as you wish for both your Pro and Farm Teams!

We have a solid Agent Team put together this year, and they are all eager to help get your players re-signed to fair deals – with hopefully some polite banter, laughter and minimal hard feelings along the way.  LOL.  This year’s Agent Team is as follows:

With that in mind, please feel free to starting sending these Agents new offers and relevant justifications for the players you wish to re-sign.  Note that we will only be accepting RFAs to start out with.  An announcement will follow in the near future regarding the ability to re-sign (max. 2) UFAs.

For those newer GMs, please sit back and enjoy the light reading that is our BFHA Rulebook:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NSsNGMGuVByVES_fP-DTbW1o0ZH1Lbo6/edit

My recommendation would be to pay special attention to the following sections:

2.3, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.5, 3.6, 4.3, 6.8, and especially 7.4

As always, feel free to reach out with any questions on the appropriate Discord channels and someone will gladly assist you.

Good luck and have fun negotiating!

BFHA Free Agent Frenzy - (Final) BATCH 5/6

By Commissioner On Thursday 19th October 2023 / 7:10pm

FREE AGENT FRENZY YR 29 – BATCH 5/6

Batch 5/6 will go live as of 5:00am PST on Friday, October 20th!

This Batch is yet again conducted using a different process than the previous Batches. This final Batch uses that of a DRAFT-STYLE PROCESS (very much the same idea as our Entry Draft).  The key points for this Batch are stated below:

  • This Batch is known as Batch 5/6 because it splits out Forwards (listed at 5$) and Defense + Goalies (listed at 6$), similar to how they were split out in Batch 2 & 3. GMs are free to choose anyone from the full list, when it is their turn.
  • This Batch is designed to mainly act as a way for franchises to grab “fillers,” to help them achieve Roster Requirements (min. 50 / max. 60 created players).
  • The League Head Office will announce the commencement of the Batch, at which point GMs will access the same google sheet we have been using and select a player when it is their turn in the Draft.
    • The Draft order has been determined using the Farm regular season final standings, from 32nd place to 1st place, as has been the practice in previous years.
  • The GM that is up next at the podium throughout the Draft has 2 hours to make their selection – once the previous team has made their pick.
    • If a GM’s 2 hours passes by then the next GM may make their pick. The GM that missed their pick, however, can access the sheet at any time afterwards and still make the pick that they missed.
  • Once a GM has selected a player in the Draft, there is no need to offer a contract, as it is assumed that the player immediately signs a 1-year, $600k, 2-way deal with their new team.
GMs have the ability to bypass as many Rounds as they wish, i.e. if they are happy with their Pro and Farm Rosters and no longer wish to pick. They can make it known to others in advance of their pick simply by typing “PASS” into the player selection box for their franchise – and in as many rounds as applicable.

Once again, the link to the FA Frenzy google sheet is found here:

Have fun!

BFHA Free Agent Frenzy - BATCHES 2-4

By Commissioner On Thursday 28th September 2023 / 3:27pm

FREE AGENT FRENZY YR 29 – BATCHES 2-4

Batch 4 is now live as of 8:00am PST, Oct. 16. Go to the link below to access the available COACHES!

These Batches are conducted using a different process than Batch 1, which is that of a LIVE, OPEN‐BID (Auction-Style) PROCESS. The League Head Office will announce the commencement of one Batch at a time, at which point GMs are free to bid on the players available in that Batch.  They are also free to “up” the bid on GMs who have already placed bids (subject to the specific bidding rules below).

Batch 2 is composed of all free agent Forwards with a $2 salary, Batch 3 is composed of all free agent Defensemen + Goalies, and Batch 4 is used to fill Coaching vacancies.  Note that there is still one final free agent Batch 5/6 that utilizes yet another (draft-style) process to assist GMs in filling their roster requirements before the season start-up.

There is a shared google sheet that we will use to help manage all the bids for the large number of players available in each Batch.  The link can be found here (the League will post the link when the sheet is ready):

FA Frenzy - Batch 2, 3, 4

Note there are also many ways to “Search” for the players available in each Batch on the BFHA website.  Please make the effort to click around and/or ask others for advice as I will not be recommending any one way to find and view these players on our site.

Definition of a “Winning Bid” in the Live, Open-Bid Process:

The definition below is meant to help clarify the following language in respect to the RFA/UFA bidding processes:

  • a “winning” bid is the most current highest, valid bid that is listed for a player.
  • Once another team enters a new highest, valid bid, then the previous bid(s) is no longer the “winning” bid.

Bidding Rules

  1. Only the base salary, term, and the signing bonus will be considered when evaluating offers.  Any other performance bonuses, pitches, or promises are not to be used. The highest bid will be determined by the AVERAGE ANNUAL VALUE or AAV (base salary + (signing bonus divided by # of years)) PER YEAR. In other words, even though the TOTAL Package is higher in Offer B below, Offer A would win:
    1. Offer A: Claude Giroux: 3 yrs @ $7M Base Salary + $1.5M SB
      1. Total Package = ($7M * 3 yrs) + $1.5M SB = $22.5M
      2. AAV = $7M + ($1.5M SB / 3 yrs) = $7.5M
    2. Offer B: Claude Giroux: 4 yrs @ $6M Base Salary + $400k SB
      1. Total Package = ($6M * 4 yrs) + $400k SB = $24.4M
      2. AAV = $6M + ($400k SB / 4 yrs) = $6.1M
  2. Minimum bid increases must equate to $100k or more AAV.
  3. At no point may the base salary decrease from the previous highest bid. (SB may fluctuate)
  4. The maximum amount of signing bonus that can be offered shall equal no more than half of the TOTAL BASE salary for the duration of the contract offer:
    1. Example: Jordan Eberle: 3 yrs @ $5M = $15M TOTAL BASE
      1. Max SB that could be included would be: (3 yrs x $5M) / 2 = $7.5M.
  5. You may not enter a new winning (highest) bid on a free agent if it requires cash (for the SB) that your franchise does not have enough of.
  6. Once a GM offers a "1-way" bid, any further bids must remain as 1-way, as well.
  7. Your team may only have a maximum of 5 winning bids out at one time per Batch.
    1. Once a winning bid turns into a signed contract, that bid slot can now be used to place a new, winning bid.
  8. Your team may only have a maximum of $13,000,000 Base Salary/Year of total winning bids at any one time, per Batch.
  9. If, after 24 hours, a player has not received a new, higher bid, then he will be considered signed to the last valid bid (and thus his new team).
  10. Batch 4 is used to fill Coaching vacancies for both Pro and Farm teams. A list of coaches who are currently coaching in the NHL or AHL (often in a Head Coach OR Assistant Coach capacity) will be provided.
    1. For the 32 Pro teams, any free agent coach may be bid on AS WELL AS those coaches who are currently under contract with a BFHA Farm team.
    2. Once the Pro teams have all filled their coaching vacancies, any remaining available coaches may be bid on to fill the 32 Farm teams.

There is not a max. time limit on this process, i.e. a player will continue to be available for bids until no more bids are made within any allotted 24‐hour period. Please note here that there is no advantage to enter a bid at 23:59:59.

If GMs notice an apparent breach of the bidding rules by another GM, please feel free to self-police the process and point it out immediately. Specific bidding rules often make it tricky for a GM to remember every detail, therefore mistakes are often made accidentally. The League will step in if any further action is required.

It is important to note, too, that the Gamesmanship Rule will be applied where needed in these Batches.  More specifically, any GMs attempting to circumvent the spirit of free agency by placing an unrealistically high-dollar offer on a player with much less market value will be removed from bidding on the said player, by the League.

Any further questions related to free agency should be put forth to the Board of Governors.

Good luck!

Mike - BFHA Commissioner

BFHA Free Agent Frenzy - BATCH 1

By Commissioner On Sunday 17th September 2023 / 6:40pm

FREE AGENT FRENZY YR 29 - BATCH 1

The Free Agent Frenzy will open at 6:00am EST this Monday, September 18th, starting with Batch 1 (Premier UFAs + Qualified RFAs). Batch 1 will close at 11:59pm EST on Friday, September 22nd.

  • All offers for Batch 1 are done via a silent, one-time, closed bidding system, whereby any GM may send ONE e-mail to [email protected] with their bids.
  • GMs may submit offers on a maximum of 3 Premier UFAs.
  • GMs may also submit offers on Qualified RFAs. These will not count as any of the 3 UFAs.

Premier UFAs – key information:

  • To find the 19 Players/Goalies available in this Batch, simply click on the “Pro League” tab on our new site. From there, go to the “Players Information” tab. Once you see the list of Players, use the filter on the “Current Salary” column and type in “1$” to see the 17 UFAs (and 2 Qualified RFAs).
  • Any of the max. 3 offers that can be put forth to the 17 UFAs are deemed to be (Sales) “Pitches.”
  • For a Pitch to count, it must consist of:
    • The dollar amount for base salary (min. $500k, max. $13M)
    • Length of term (min. 1 yr, max. 4 yrs)
    • 1-way (Pro Only eligible) or 2-way (Pro or Farm eligible) designation
    • A Signing Bonus may also be offered (max. = Base Salary * Length / 2)
  • In addition, it is highly recommended that GMs consider referencing or including the following information with their Pitches:
    • Best “fit” for a player, which would include: an obvious gap in a team’s roster that the player could fill, how the age of the player might fit with a team, if the dollars of the offer fit the team’s financial situation, etc.
    • Creativity, i.e. personal ties or stories of a Player may get some consideration.
    • Fictitious stories may get some consideration as they will give the Agents a good chuckle in an otherwise challenging space… but will not hold much weight.
    • Promises of ice time, PP time, etc. will not hold much weight.
  • A volunteer Agent Team will assess and vote on the top Pitches, meaning the highest dollar offer will not automatically be the winner.
  • Please do not be upset if a player does not sign with your team if there was little to no additional effort put into your Pitch.
  • Vice versa, please do not be upset if your Pitch was exhaustive and thorough and the player does not sign with your team.  The Agents are not looking for the best writer or the longest e-mail, and instead are focused on the key points of the Pitch.
  • Any players from this list who do not receive an offer will move on to Batches 2 or 3.
  • See our Rule 6.7 for all additional information related to this process (note our Rules are in the process of being updated).

Qualified RFAs – key information:

  • Any offers put forth are deemed to be Offer Sheets, in which the team that currently owns the rights to the player has the ability to match all Offer Sheets.
  • A full "pitch" is not required, therefore you only need to include the "must" information from above.
  • The 2 Qualified RFAs available to sign to Offer Sheets this year are:
    • A.J. Greer (VEG) – min. starting bid is $770k, 1-way
    • Mason Marchment (SJS) – min. starting bid is $1.375M, 1-way
  • Again, Offer Sheets do not count against the max. 3 UFA offers.
  • Remember that you must own the required compensation (draft picks) as per the RFA Compensation Schedule (in case the owning team chooses not to match):

Base Salary Per Year (Excluding Signing Bonus)

Draft Pick Compensation

$500,000 ‐ $1,500,000

One 4th Round Pick

$1,500,001 ‐ $3,000,000

One 3rd Round Pick

$3,000,001 ‐ $4,500,000

One 2nd Round Pick

$4,500,001 ‐ $6,000,000

One 1st Round Pick

$6,000,001 ‐ $7,500,000

One 1st Round Pick + One 3rd Round Pick

$7,500,001 ‐ $9,000,000

One 1st Round Pick + One 2nd Round Pick + One 3rd Round Pick

$9,000,001 ‐ $10,500,000

Two 1st Round Picks

$10,500,001 ‐ $13,000,000 (Max)

Three 1st Round Picks

  • When only ONE pick in a round needs to be provided in it must be available in the NEXT entry draft.
  • When the TWO 1st round picks need to be provided, that team must have them available in 2 of the NEXT 3 entry drafts.
  • When the THREE 1st round picks need to be provided, that team must have them available in 3 of the NEXT 4 entry drafts.
  • A team may use any pick that they possess that qualifies as a first‐round draft pick, or whatever round the pick is required in the compensation. It can be a previously acquired pick from another team, or an earned additional pick from an Event. So basically, if the offering team has more than one pick that fits the compensation guidelines, it is his/her choice as to which pick(s) to provide.

As always, do not be afraid to contact the League if you have any questions!

Good luck!

Remaining Duties for GMs as we near our Summer Break

By Commissioner On Wednesday 5th July 2023 / 3:50pm

Hello fellow GMs!

It appears that everyone is slowly but surely getting used to our new website.  If you have any questions or concerns, login issues, etc. please let me know.  As we draw near to our usual Summer Break (July/August), there are a couple of things every GM should be doing.  For most of you this should be second nature, but for our newer GMs this will be helpful:

  1. Review your Pro AND Farm Rosters for any outstanding Free Agents that may be unsigned.  I find that clickling on your team along the top of this page, then using the Players Info tab, then filtering on "0" years remaining is a good way to see this.  Our Agent Team uses a shared spreadsheet to track all of the offers that have come through and been processed.  We may have missed a couple, so please check.  Remember you have the ability to re-sign all of your RFAs and a maximum of 2 UFAs.
  2. Review your Pro AND Farm Rosters for creation eligibility.  In order for a player to be eligible to be created - or remain created - they must have played at least 1 "Pro" (NHL or AHL) game the prior real-life season.  Look for any players that are ineligible then decide if you are ok losing that player (because they will be deleted in the sim over the Summer Break).  If that player has little value to your franchise then do nothing.  If that player still holds some value and you want to retain their rights, then you must let me know.  In this case, I would add them to your Prospect/ER List as an ER player.  ER stands for E = (played in) Europe or similar international league;  R = Retiree;  ER = Emergency Room (for those that did not play due to being on the LTIR).  Then if that player becomes eligible for creation again in the future, he can be re-created.  Just keep in mind that re-signing/re-creating ER players follows the same process we use for re-signing RFAs and UFAs.  Age matters, i.e. a UFA-aged ER player would count as 1 of your max. 2 UFAs.
  3. Review your Prospect/ER List for creation eligibility.  Reference #2 - you may request creation of the players on your respective List, as long as they played that minimum 1 "Pro" game.  Of note, the League AUTOMATICALLY creates any of your players that played 10 or more NHL GP last year and/or 50 or more NHL+AHL GP last year - or has played the minimum 1 "Pro" game and has additionally played a total of 50 or more NHL+AHL GP in his career.  This becomes an important and helpful exercise as every franchise needs to have min. 50 / max. 60 created players at the start of every new season.  What better way to become compliant than to take advantage of the players you own - and the entry-level deals that they are all eligible to be signed to.  This is known as Roster Requirements - it helps ensure the sim can run as smoothly as possible each season.  Of that min. 50 created players:
    1. 9 must be LW eligible
    2. 9 must be C
    3. 9 must be RW
    4. 16 must be D
    5. 5 must be G
  4. Review your Prospect/ER List for relevance.  At the start of every new season you must pay $75,000 per Prospect and $150,000 per ER Player that exist on your Prospect/ER Lists.  It is always a good habit to review your List and send in any requests to remove players that no longer hold any value for you.

I hope this helps.  These exercises have already been completed by a number of GMs.  If you wish to take advantage of them, they need to be sent to me BEFORE the end of our Entry Draft - and the subsequent start of our Summer Break... so please do not leave it to the last minute.  :)

Regards,

Mike - BFHA Commissioner

MICHAEL (Colorado) (Colorado Avalanche) On 1st July / 3:18pm :

Also just figured out how to submit a trade... Go to Main tab, then click on Trade. Please submit all of your future trades this way! It looks like there are some advanced features with the new Trade function, too, but please stick to our usual/simple way of trading for now, until we better understand how the other features work.

JASON (Montreal) (Montreal Canadiens) On 1st July / 7:50pm :

Just submitted a trade!  Let me know how it worked :)
